Broncos’ Randy Gregory and Rams’ Oday Aboushi suspended after throwing punches at Christmas

Denver Broncos rusher Randy Gregory and Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Oday Aboushi are being disciplined for throwing punches on Christmas Day as both players will be suspended for Week 17 without pay.

The game at SoFi Stadium ended in a 51-14 rout of the Rams, and while the players did their usual handshakes and the like after the game, Gregory and Aboushi went a step further.

Gregory and Aboushi were seen in midfield exchanging words with their headsets on, and it looked like things were heating up a bit. Then Gregory made the first swing, hitting Aboushi through the helmet, and the Rams player immediately responded with his own swing.

The Broncos and Rams players stepped in as both players were still yelling at each other before being pulled apart.

“As you walked towards a group of teammates, coaches and media, you both stopped and hit your head and/or neck,” wrote the vice president of football operations of the NFL, Jon Runyan, in a letter to Gregory and Aboushi, via the NFL. Media. “Your aggressive driving could have caused serious injury and clearly does not reflect the high standards of sportsmanship expected of a professional.”

It was the final straw for the Broncos, who fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett after going 4-11 in his first year with Denver.

And even with the poor record, there’s no waiting for the 2023 NFL Draft for a high first-round pick, as Denver traded a boatload of draft capital to acquire Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks in over the past offseason to elevate their offense. Instead, it’s the bottom line for a team set to progress in 2022.

The Rams, however, didn’t fare much better after lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy at SoFi Stadium in February after winning the Super Bowl. At 5-10, they were also knocked out of the playoffs, but the injuries can be blamed on what happened in Los Angeles.

The Rams lost Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Aaron Donald and more for the remainder of the season.

With Baker Mayfield under center now after trying out John Wolford and Bryce Perkins, he found success with two wins in three games as the Rams would like to end the season on a high.

The Broncos will face the Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers to wrap up their season, and the Seahawks will be watching closely to see where they pick next year.
