LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — With children in tow and despite freezing temperatures, loads of asylum-seeking migrants were bussed to Vice President Kamala Harris’ home in Washington D.C. over the Christmas holiday. According to immigrant aid groups, migrants have been gathering at the Texas border where they have been relocated to Washington, New York City and Chicago.

Managing Director of SAMU First Response, Tatiana Laborde, said this past week a total of nine busloads of migrants were dropped off in Washington.  Local churches took the migrants in and provided shelter, blankets and food. Some migrants are now attempting to commute to cities they have family in or cities that have community resources to help assist them in their relocation.

Recently, migrant assistance organizations have been seeing an uptick in migrants from Ecuador and Columbia.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has faced harsh scrutiny for his U.S. Mexico border practices that implement bussing migrants to Democratic run cities.
