Claire Sweeney warns parents of the dangers of Roblox after online thieves target her son

Claire Sweeney has warned parents of the dangers of online gaming site Roblox after her son was targeted by online thieves.

The 51-year-old actress took to Twitter on Monday to issue a stern warning about the risks of letting children play on the site.

Roblox is a gaming site where more than half of American gamers are under 16 years old.

The website allows users to create Lego-style block avatars and program their own games or play games created by other users.

However, some fear that children are playing this popular game safely and falling prey to online predators.

Claire revealed her son Jaxon was playing the game when she saw he received a message asking her to tell them his credit card numbers.

She tweeted: ‘Parents out there, anyone’s kids playing Roblox? Yesterday my son was playing, and I saw on the chat in the corner, someone was asking him to go into my bag, take out my credit card and read the numbers!!

‘@Roblox seems like a dangerous place for kids. Luckily he told me!

She was inundated with messages from other parents sharing their concerns, including Jeremy Vine.

He wrote: ‘Did an article on this @BBCRadio2! Horrible stories. A 13-year-old boy was encouraged to run away from home to meet ‘a teenage girl’ who turned out to be a big man in the Czech Republic”.

Claire replied: ‘Your show was brilliant, @HayleyHassall read the article. I discussed with my son about Roblox. Then it happened yesterday.

“They said they knew everything about him, his age, his name etc. Then asked her to go into my purse, take my credit card and send the numbers. the username was ‘Unfortunate’.’

Claire’s warning comes after earlier this year Kim Kardashian threatened to sue Roblox after her 6-year-old son Saint saw an ad for her “unreleased” sex tape.

Kim was shocked when she saw Saint laughing at her iPad while playing Roblox. only to see a photo of her crying face on the screen captioned “Kim’s New Sex Tape”.

“It’s not OK though, it’s not,” Kim sobbed. ‘On Roblox, Saint was on Roblox yesterday and a damn thing popped up and he started laughing and it was a picture of my crying face.

“It was a game someone made of Roblox and it said Kim’s New Sex Tape when you clicked on it. Thank God he can’t read yet.

“And it’s like on my dead body, that shit is gonna happen to me again.” I just want it to go. It’s not going to fuck me up. It’s not, so I just want it gone.

She added in a confessional: “If my son had been a little older and had been able to read, I would have been mortified…I almost died when Saint laughed at it.”

A fiery Kim then told her lawyer to draft something to pull this off immediately and she has, “all the time, all the money and all the resources to fucking burn them all to the ground”.

Roblox said it removed the piece and banned its creator – and no sex tape was ever available.
