According to Deadline, Amanda Brugel (The Handmaid’s Tale) would have joined the cast of the series DarkMatter of Apple TV+ in a recurring role. She will play the character of Blaire, the close friend of Daniella (Jennifer Connelly).
The new 9-part sci-fi series is based on the book by Blake Crouch. It also stars Joel Edgerton, Alice Braga, Oakes Fegley, Dayo Okeniyi and Jimmi Simpson.
DarkMatter follows Jason Dessen (Edgerton), a physicist, professor and father who, one night, while returning home from the streets of Chicago, is kidnapped into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare as he tries to return to his reality amidst the multiverse of lifetimes he could have lived. In this maze of mind-bending realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to find his true family and save them from the most terrifying and unstoppable enemy there is: himself.
The series is executive produced by Matt Tolmach and David Manpearl for Matt Tolmach Productions. Crouch will serve as the series’ writer, showrunner and executive producer, and Jakob Verbruggen will direct the first three episodes.
Besides Hulu’s feminist hit, Brugel recently joined the cast of Sort Of from HBO Max and CBC, as well as that of Parish from AMC. Previously, she played the role of Nina Gomez in Kim’s Convenience. His last movie, Ashgrove, which she co-wrote, produced and performed, won Best Ensemble at the Canadian Film Festival.
