DeSantis calls Fauci a ‘little elf’ – World Time Todays

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, an outspoken critic of National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. Anthony Fauci, dubbed the prominent public health figure a “little elf” and declared that someone “needed to throw him across the Potomac.”

“I know he’s saying he’s going to retire — someone has to grab this little elf and throw him across the Potomac,” DeSantis said during a speech.

The governor’s remark drew applause.

Fauci recently announced that he plans to step down from his various government positions in December.

“I announce today that I will be stepping down from the positions of director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and head of the NIAID Laboratory of Immunoregulation, and from the position of Chief Medical Advisor to President Joe Biden. I will be leaving these positions this December to pursue the next chapter of my career,” Fauci said in a expression.

Fauci, who has been a staunch supporter of the COVID-19 vaccination, tested positive for the disease earlier this year after already being fully vaccinated and boosted twice.

DeSantis who entered office In early 2019, and has become a very popular figure on the political right, he is currently running for re-election during the 2022 Sunshine State gubernatorial election.

Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist won the Florida Democratic gubernatorial primary on Tuesday and will be running against DeSantis in November’s general election.

During his remarks Wednesday, Crist accused DeSantis of being “anti-democracy,” “anti-women,” and “anti-African Americans.” He also referred to the governor as “anti-freedom Ron”.

“Those who support the governor should stay with him and vote for him,” Crist said, adding, “I don’t want your vote.”
