Prague – On the sidelines of the European Political Community (EPC) summit in Prague, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a multilateral meeting with, among others, Armenian Prime Minister Nikola Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilhaj Aliyev. Cross-border fighting broke out between Armenia and Azerbaijan last month, and the two countries have long been at loggerheads. The Turkish Anadolu Agency reported about it today.

According to Anadolu, the statesmen met after arriving at Prague Castle even before the EPC meeting began. “President Erdogan met with Azerbaijani President Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan before the meeting of the European Political Community in Prague,” the agency wrote.

From the published photo AND videos it is also evident that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was also present at the discussion, as French President Emmanuel Macron also greeted them.

Sharp clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan broke out in September. The fighting left several hundred dead on both sides and was the heaviest since the fall of 2020. Baku and Yerevan then agreed to a cease-fire, but this was repeatedly violated.

The fighting is related to the age-old dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh. The territory is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, but until 2020 it was largely controlled by ethnic Armenians.
