In this article, you will get all information regarding Laura Price: ‘I was diagnosed with cancer, I love exploring death and grief in my writing’

Where are you now and what can you see?

I’m at my desk in my front room, which looks out on to a large cemetery. Every hour or so, a hearse drives past, which I find weirdly soothing. I was recently diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and I love exploring death and grief in my writing.

What are you currently reading?

I’m reading Emma Styles’ debut novel No Country for Girls, a fast-paced Australian road trip peppered with murder and theft. I’m also listening to the audiobook of Tiffany Philippou’s Totally Fine, an exploration of the grief she experienced after her boyfriend’s suicide.

Who is your favourite author and why do you admire them?

My favourites include Isabel Allende, Holly Bourne and Hanya Yanagihara, but if I had to pick one, it would be Dolly Alderton. I love books that delve into the lives of modern women in their twenties and thirties, and Dolly is one of the most perceptive writers of our time.

Describe the room where you usually write…

My office is the living room at the front of the house, where my desk is piled high with hardbacks, colourful notepads and a microphone for my podcast, Life in Food with Laura Price. There’s a teal velvet sofa and the view of the aforementioned cemetery.

Which fictional character most resembles you?

I’d be Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy, in The Devil Wears Prada. I became a journalist in my twenties. Like Andy, and like Jess in my own novel, Single Bald Female, I’m a writer who knows nothing about fashion.

Who is your hero/heroine from outside literature?

I’ve always been sporty, so I love fellow Yorkshirewoman Jessica Ennis-Hill. When I was having chemotherapy in summer 2012, she was raking in the gold medals at the London Olympics and she really powered me to keep going.

Single Bald Female is published by Pan Macmillan, at £14.99
