LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Ahead of Small Business Saturday, two Lincoln-based businesses are urging people to “buy local” this holiday season.

Hattie Kingsley, owner of Heart and Craft Candle Company says the holiday season is the best time to shop locally.

“When you shop from a small business, you are supporting someone’s dream and their livelihood,” she said.

Kingsley partnered with a local brick-and-mortar business, Earth and Home, which opened its doors in July 2022.

“I ended up just reaching out to her and I emailed her and she was like, Oh, I love your candles, I would love to carry your products in my store,” Kingsley said of Earth and Home’s owner Megan Connealy.

While Kingsley’s business has been around since 2020, Earth and Home is experiencing its first holiday shopping season.

Connealy says with fall underway and winter coming in hot, she believes the coming days will boost local businesses even more.

“We’ve got a lot of support from friends and family and hearing customers that I have zero connections to,” she said.

From home to storefront both owners share excitement for the holiday season, aiming to garner community support by buying and staying local.

“I’m excited to be able to give back to other local vendors and really celebrate Christmas in that way,” Connealy says.
