A 36-year-old man was charged Tuesday with triggering an allegedly drug-fueled eight-car crash that killed a woman in Anaheim.
Luis Javier Garcia-Pedroza is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of a drug causing injury, both felonies. He also faces a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on one of the victims of the crash, which occurred about 2:15 p.m. Thursday at Magnolia Avenue and Ball Road, according to Anaheim police Lt. Shane Carringer.
Garcia-Pedroza is accused of killing 36-year-old Vianey Granillo Ivey of Hawaiian Gardens.
The criminal complaint alleges he was driving at an unsafe speed, ran a red light and was inattentive.
Police suspect Pedroza drove through a red light going south on Magnolia and crashed into the eastbound victim’s car, according to police Sgt. Matt Sutter.
Another victim was taken to an area hospital to be treated for moderate injuries, and nine others complained of pain but were treated on scene and did not require or declined to be checked out at a hospital, Carringer said.
