Man dies after stabbing on Boxing Day in Birmingham nightclub | birmingham

Police have opened a murder investigation after a 23-year-old man was stabbed on the dance floor of a nightclub in Birmingham on Boxing Day.

West Midlands Police said they were called to Crane nightclub in Digbeth on Monday just before 11.45pm after reports a man had been stabbed. Despite efforts to save him, the man was pronounced dead approximately 30 minutes later.

Detectives are watching CCTV from the nightclub and are urging anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch. No one has been arrested at this point, police said.

DI Michelle Thurgood, who is leading the investigation, said: ‘He was a young man enjoying himself with friends at a Boxing Day party and our thoughts are with his friends and family today .

“We know there were hundreds of people in the nightclub at the time. Although we have already spoken to a number of them, we still need to hear from everyone who was there and witnessed or even filmed what happened.

“We believe the victim was approached by a group of people and then stabbed, so we are working hard to identify everyone involved.”

Police said the victim’s family had been informed and would be taken care of by specialist officers.

The scene remained closed on Tuesday while officers collected evidence. Neighborhood officers will be patrolling the area over the next few days to provide reassurance.
