Miley Cyrus has apparently requested that her vocals be removed from a Morrissey album track.

The former Smiths frontman has released an update to his online message portal ‘Messages from Morrissey’.

“Miley Cyrus now wants to be removed from the song ‘I Am Veronica’ for which she volunteered as a backing vocal almost two years ago,” reads the message posted on Christmas Eve.

The news follows an update Morrissey posted regarding his apparent departure from his Los Angeles-based label, Capitol Records.

“It comes at a time when Morrissey has parted ways with Capitol Records (Los Angeles), which controls the hidden album Pyre of teenagers“, continued the message.

The information was posted under an image of Cyrus and Morrissey, who can be seen lying on the ground together.

“Above Morrissey and Miley during Miley’s session for ‘I Am Veronica’,” the image is captioned.

It’s not yet clear why Cyrus asked for his voice to be removed, but fans online have made their guesses.

“Guess she thinks this might tarnish her fine career,” one fan wrote on Twitter, appearing to reference Morrissey’s recent controversies.

The message on Morrissey’s site continues: “Morrissey has voluntarily parted ways with the management of Maverick/Quest. Morrissey has also voluntarily withdrawn from any association with Capitol Records (Los Angeles.)”

Update comes 18 months after Morrissey’s next album was announced Pyre of teenagers.

Morrissey originally announced the album in May 2021 – slated for release by BMG Records – but after the label dropped it, Capitol Records took over.

The album, which is expected to feature a roster of all star contributors (Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Iggy Pop, Cyrus and more) was due for release in February 2023.

However, in November, the singer posted a message suggesting that some issues had arisen:Pyre of teenagers is no longer slated for a February release, as noted by this site. His fate is exclusively in the hands of Capitol Records (Los Angeles). »

The Independent has reached out to Capitol reps Morrissey and Miley Cyrus for comment.
