An examination of individual sectors of labour shows the gap widens or narrows depending on the industry.

In management jobs the gap narrowed to 91 per cent from 79 per cent in 1998. A similar shift was noticed in the sales and services sector, where last year’s 92 per cent ratio was a 12-point improvement over four years earlier.

However, the situation in the resource and agricultural sectors remained unchanged since 1998, with the recorded wage gap standing at 72 per cent.

The gap in overall wealth between women and men is even wider (82.3 per cent) when considered in the context of weekly salaries, with female employees working on average fewer hours a week compared to their male colleagues.
