According to a source who asked to remain anonymous because they could not publicly discuss their knowledge of the facts, Jim Ryan brought up the market rivalry during a Q&A with employees earlier this month. .

Jim Ryan reportedly commented, “When we rate Game Pass, it seems to be going down,” in response to a question regarding Xbox Game Pass. When it comes to Game Pass, we’ve sold more PS5s in two years than subscribers combined, and they’ve been doing that for 6-7 years.

Ryan said: “We’re just under 50 million subscribers, and they’re in their 20s, but there’s still work to do to get that number up.”

The company is challenging Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which Sony says is “terrible for competition, bad for the gaming industry, and bad for gamers themselves,” so Ryan’s comments would have been a bit of a surprise (via Reuters).

Due to Sony’s concerns, the UK’s Competition Markets Authority (CMA) is reviewing the transaction and the FTC’s efforts to thwart it.
