The Ukrainian military has shared a video showing the destruction of an Iranian-made “kamikaze” drone deployed by Russia.

Iran’s “Shahed-136” drones are increasingly being used by Russia in recent efforts to step up airstrikes in Ukraine. The Air Force Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces shared a video on Facebook on Friday that said one of the drones exploded in mid-air in the Dnepropetrovsk region, about 60 miles northeast of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.

Also the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense divided tweeted the video, while saying in the tweet that a total of six Russian kamikaze drones were destroyed by Ukraine on Friday. Iran was also accused of supporting “National Socialism” by supplying the drones.

“In 1943, Tehran became a place of hope for a new life free from Nazism,” the Defense Ministry said in the tweet, along with video showing the drone turning into a fireball in mid-flight.

“In 2022, fundamentalist Tehran became a place that supports Russian Nazism and the killing of peaceful citizens,” the tweeted continued. “Today #UAarmy destroyed 6 Russian kamikaze drones provided by Iran.”

The destroyed drone was one of two Shahed-136 drones that Ukraine said it shot down in the Dnepropetrovsk region on Friday.

Mykola Lukaschuk, head of the Dnepropetrovsk regional council, said in a telegram message that one of the destroyed drones injured six people after debris fell into a private yard and caused a fire, while several buildings and cars were also damaged.

“In the evening, air defense units shot down two Shahed-136 kamikaze drones over the Dnipropetrovsk region,” Lukashuk said, according to the state news agency Ukrinform. “A drone fell into the yard of a household and a fire broke out there. Six people were injured, one person was hospitalized.”

The other drone shot down in Dnepropetrovsk reportedly landed on a local highway, damaging at least 100 square meters of road.

Another Iranian-made kamikaze drone was destroyed in a deadly Russian drone attack in Odessa on Friday, according to sources The Kiev Post.

“Odessa was attacked by kamikaze drones from the sea,” the Ukrainian government said post. “Two drones destroyed an administration building in the port area and rescue workers extinguish the flames. A civilian was killed. A ‘Shahed-136’ drone was shot down by air defense forces over the sea.”

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a news conference Aug. 30 that Iran sent Russia a shipment of both Shahed-136 and Mohajer-6 drones “over several days in August.”

Ukraine reported destroying at least five Russian drones Thursday, including at least four Shahed 136 drones. Ukraine earlier this month reported the destruction of a Shahed-136 drone near the front lines of the war in the eastern Kharkiv region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday that Iran faces serious consequences if it engages in “collaboration with evil” by supplying the drones to Russia.

“Today the Russian army used Iranian drones to attack the Dnipropetrovsk region and Odessa,” Zelenskyy said in a televised address. “I have instructed the State Department to respond harshly to this fact. The world will know of every fact of cooperation with evil, and there will be appropriate consequences.

“It has already been decided to withdraw the accreditation of the Iranian ambassador to Ukraine and to significantly reduce the number of diplomatic staff at the Iranian embassy,” he continued.
