The 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso was among those who wished the new PM success following his appointment as PM.

“I had the pleasure of visiting your beautiful country in 1982, when I was invited to speak on peace and universal responsibility.”

“I was also happy to have the opportunity of exchanging views with the late prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman and other leaders.”

“These are very challenging times. It is my hope that Malaysia will continue to prosper and make a significant contribution to the peace and stability of our increasingly interconnected world.”

“I wish you every success in meeting the challenges that lie ahead in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people of Malaysia,” the Dalai Lama said in a statement issued by his office based in Dharamsala, India, the Tibetan Buddhism.

The 75 year-old was also congratulated on Thursday by Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

“Significant challenges in our local and global environment face your premiership. Singapore and Malaysia should work together to manage these difficulties and look into new opportunities for collaboration as close neighbours and friends, according to a statement from PM Lee, who also expressed his eagerness to meet Mr. Anwar soon.

This was followed by Indonesian President Joko Widodo who called him on the phone to congratulate him before he (Anwar) left his home to give a press conference.

On Twitter, Anwar shared a clip of his chat with Widodo, saying that he affirms that Indonesia is a true friend of Malaysia and hopes that trade and business relations, investment, culture and labor issues can be improved.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan called Anwar when he was about to give his first press conference as PM.

In the conversation that lasted about 10 minutes, Anwar expressed hope that Malaysia and Turkey would strengthen ties and cooperation in many areas including trade, business, culture, education, and military matters.
