Zelenskyy: Nine Million People In Ukraine Still Without Electricity – S Chronicles

Despite repair work on the power grid, which was severely damaged by the Russian attacks, around nine million people in Ukraine are still without electricity. “But the number and duration of power outages are steadily decreasing,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his daily video yesterday. But there are still many deficits in energy supply.

Important decisions were taken during his consultations with government representatives on the situation in the energy and infrastructure sectors. “We are preparing for next year, not just for the winter months,” Zelenskyy said. “There are measures that need to be taken and the State will certainly take them.” The president did not provide details.

Get ready for new attacks

At the same time, Zelenskyy warned of possible further Russian attacks on the Ukrainian power grid. “Air defenses are preparing, the state is preparing and everyone must prepare,” he said.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko also fears a major Russian rocket and cruise missile attack on New Year’s Eve. “Russians have not renounced attacks against our power grid,” he said on Ukrainian television today. The power grid is being repaired quickly to give Ukrainians non-stop New Year celebrations. The prerequisite, however, is that there are no further Russian attacks.

The Russian military has repeatedly attacked the Ukrainian power grid with cruise missiles, rockets and drones for weeks. The objective is to put pressure on the population in the middle of winter with the lack of electricity and water.
